SOLID START FOR NYCFC ENDS WITH 3-1 LOSS TO RIVAL PHILLY

New York. - Despite a strong start, the New York City Football Club is now winless in their last 6 after falling to the rival Philadelphia Union at home 3-1. For the first 30 minutes NYCFC had a stellar start, firing off an impressive 5 shots on goalkeeper Andre Blake, including a huge goal Gabriel Pereira to a left footed shot to the left side of the goal for an early 1-0 score.

WHY ARE THEY STILL LOSING? AN ANALYSIS OF NYCFC’S 2023 SEASON

New York. - In 2021, NYCFC was viewed by many as the scrappy underdog, the long shot who made it all the way and took home the MLS cup. Expectations were high in 2022. Despite multiple changes in both the playing and coaching staff, the Boys in Blue managed to finish third in the Eastern Conference with a record of 16-11-7. Now, almost halfway through the 2023 season, they are ranked 11th in the Eastern Conference with a record of 4-6-4, all wins occurring at home. This apparently drastic change has many fans, pundits, and journalists wondering what’s going wrong. Many are blaming head coach Nick Cushing for the team’s poor performance. Although he’s new to MLS with only 2 seasons as an assistant coach and one and a half as head coach, Cushing came to NYCFC with 7 years of experience as head coach of Manchester City Women. In Manchester, he had a 75% win rate over his career and was voted FA Women’s Manager of the Year in 2016. As the heir apparent to former head coach Ronny Deila, he was privy to the management style, tactics, and strategy that led to allowed the team to dominate in 2021.

NYCFC VS FC CINCINNATI: PREVIEW AND 5 QUESTIONS

New York. - The New York City Football Club will face FC Cincinnati for the second time in under three weeks to close out what has been a tough month of June. After facing the Ohio club back on May 10 in a first round loss in the US Open Tournament, the team gets a chance to take them on again with not only a playoff spot on the line but a much needed win to end a 6 game winless streak. As always, I have a few questions I want to address, with stats to go along with it. Let’s go!

NYCFC VS NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION – PREVIEW AND 5 QUESTIONS

New York. - The New York City Football Club finishes it’s 3 game homestand with a possible renewed sense of energy as it aims for it’s first win in over a month. After the team’s 3-1 loss to top seeded Cincinnati, a match that had (as an understatement) an intense amount of scrutiny towards the officiating, the team tries to start off the month of June on the right foot against yet another playoff-bound team in New England. As usual, I have questions leading up to it, but in the meantime, here’s head coach Nick Cushing’s press conference where several opening minutes were directed towards head ref Armando Villarreal for a questionable disallowed goal, a questionable VAR that resulted in a penalty kick for Cincy and a whopping 7 yellow cards for NYCFC. I lead off the press conference as I felt was right in the situation:

MBAPEÉ: LA ‘JOYA’ QUE TODA EUROPA QUIERE

TORONTO.
