NYCFC Can't Overcome Fatigue, Drop Rematch to Philadelphia 2-0.

New York. - After traveling over 4000 miles and having 3 matches in an 8 day stretch the New York City Football Club couldn't overcome lethargy as they were shut down 2-0 in the rematch of the Eastern Conference final last season against a rested Philadelphia Union. On a day where the weather couldn't have been better for a late winter day the team struggled mightily out of the gate, giving up goals in the 12th & 33rd minute and nearly a 3rd at the end of the first half that was quickly overturned due to offsides. Despite maintaining possession of the ball for nearly 75% of the match as well as a far better pass percentage they were unable to up much pressure thanks to a smothering Union defense that only allowed 3 shots on goal, however things could have been much different. In the 27th minute a rare overturned red card on defender Jack Elliot during a bona fide NYCFC scoring chance was overturned via VAR when Santi Rodriguez was called for a handball; turning the Union from being a man day for two thirds of the match into an innocent free kick from their own end.

NYCFC Puts Up Strong Performance in a Cold Home Opener, Win 4-1

New York. - In just below freezing temperatures and intermittent rain and snow the Gents in Blue found the back of the net four times on the day they unveiled their championship banner with an impressive 4-1 victory over FC Montreal. Alexander Callens, Santi Rodriguez, Talles Magno & Thiago Andrade all scored as the team fired off 7 shots on goal to just 3. The team over it's first two MLS matches had failed to score a goal so the offensive burst was huge. Said coach Ronny Deila, “I expect goals from Talles, Thiago and Santi. They are good finishers and they are able as well. It’ll come more and more. It's a very good strength for the team that we have that we can score from different positions. We scored four today without Tati and Maxi scoring, and we know what those two can do so that's a strength for the team.”

NYCFC Give Up Late Goal, Lose First Game of 2022 1-0

New York. - On a night in L.A. Where expectations and excitement ran high at the start of the 2022 season, the New York City Football Club struggled to have their offense gel as they fell to the home Los Angeles Galaxy 1-0. The team, which impressed to start CONCACAF with a 2-0 and 4-0 win over Santos managed only one shot attempt on goal early on and was unable to hold possession throughout; testing goalkeeper Sean Johnson repeatedly until a goal in the 90th minute by the team's 2021 leading goal scorer Chicharitto gave the Galaxy the only score of the match. New York had a chance to tie in the 93rd minute but the shot by Heber went wide.

NYCFC Defies Odds, Defies the Doubters, Capture Their First MLS Cup

New York. - 8 months back I covered my first game with the New York City Football Club. For the team that lost a heart breaker in a shootout loss the previous year and due to Covid hadn't seen a home soccer game since the 2019 season, it was a chance of impassioned renewal. And it started with a bang in a 5-0 win over Cincinnati to start the season the right foot. During the season, the team suffered through injury, poor playing conditions (more on that later) as well as it's longest goal drought in its history with 509 minutes straight without a goal. They were a team that excelled at home in the Bronx but struggled elsewhere but despite all the setbacks pulled out a 4th place finish in a tight MLS Eastern Conference.
