New York. - Despite scoring the first goal early, the NYC Football Club fell 2-1 to the toughest team in MLS and candidate for the Eastern Conference crown; the New England Revolution.

In a night where the 20 year anniversary of the events of September 11, 2001 hung heavy, NYCFC came out of the gate quickly; scoring in the 11th minute on a Santiago Rodriguez right foot shot at the six yard mark on a nifty assist for Taty Castellanos.

However from there it was largely downhill. Just 5 minutes after scoring his third goal of the season Santiago existed with an obvious hamstring injury that leaves him at best questionable for Tuesday night’s matchup at “home” against Dallas. A further 5 minutes later Emmanuel Boateng scored the equalizer for New England off a quick touch from Edward Kizza and you felt the momentum immediately swing in favor of the Revs.

The second half provided more problems for the Gents In Blue. After Taty picked up a yellow card (causing him to be suspended against Dallas Tuesday) barely a minute later Alfredo Morales picked up a second yellow card in the 53rd after picking up his first at 45’ (both for bad fouls) meaning his night was done early and New York played a man shot the rest of the match. New England took advantage at the 65 minute mark on a right foot shot from Tajon Buchanan and that ended up being your ball game folks. For the Gents in Blue they played well despite the opponent and location and are now 1-2 against New England this season. Next up, an 11th place opponent in Dallas, who desperately needs a win to stay in contention in the West.

Five Notes:

  1. New England dominated in nearly every category; including time of possession, shots, shots on target and crosses. Additionally New York failed to register a shot in target in the entire second half.
  2. New York were without both Jesus Medina and Maxi Morales, both due to suspensions. Morales for his red card last week against Nashville and Medina for yellow card accumulation.
  3. As mentioned, Taty Castellanos will be out for Tuesday’s match for yellow card accumulation. This was his 7th yellow card of the year, matching his 7 in each of the past two seasons.
  4. This match was 19 year old Talles Magno’s second start with the club; the first being back in June 19, also against New England. The Brazilian import played his most minutes in a match this season at 56.
  5. No rest for the weary. New York is at “home” this Tuesday against 11th place FC Dallas. It should be a boost to the Gents In Blue as NYCFC has gone 8-2-1 between both home locations while Dallas has struggled greatly on the road going 2-8-2. Dallas desperately needs this win if they want to stay in playoff contention; as they are 4 points out of the last spot
